Stress Test

DESCRIPTION OF PROCEDURE

The Stress Test is a diagnostic analysis of the electrical rhythms within the heart during dynamic activity. Utilizing a treadmill, we continuously record the ECG (A device used to generate a report resulting from the electrical activity related to the muscles of the heart) throughout a set period in which the patient will undergo various levels of intensity. In order to ensure the safety of patients, their blood pressure and heart rate are monitored before, during and after each test.

PROCESS OUTLINE
 

  • Patient should cease any medications that regulate heart rate the morning of the test
  • Comfortable clothing and shoes suitable for walking on a treadmill is required
  • Duration of test depends on each individual patient
  • Patient will be walking on the treadmill at increasing stages until their heart reaches the desired rate.
  • Stress technician will be measuring the patient’s blood pressure during each stage of the test

INDICATIONS FOR TESTING

  • Chest Pain/Discomfort
  • Shortness of breath/Dyspnea
  • High risk patients
  • Post myocardial infarction
